Ready for Lift Off

I spent a summer on the beach in Nice, France, watching people enjoy parachute rides over the sea. Oh the screams of laughter on take offs and landings.

There is always that moment just before lift-off when everything tightens, lines stretch, fabric fills, and then suddenly someone is no longer on the ground. Watching it happen never really gets old. The parachute catches the light and swells into shape, part sail, part wing, drifting between control and chance. For a few minutes, it looks effortless, like flying was always meant to be this simple.
